The model of e-commerce used in the rural areas of China has caught the attention
of Molepo Traditional Dance (MTD), says Chairperson, Mahlaga Molepo. E-commerce
should be used to assist rural entrepreneurs in South Africa connect with clients
by selling their products and services online. Unlike China, South Africa does not
have a Ministry of Commerce. This is inspite the fact that there is growing interest
in online shopping among the middle class. Rural entrepreneurs and organizations
find it difficult to market and sell their products and services using traditional
methods. The decision by MTD to open a branch of a boutique at Mankweng is one example.
There is a need for infrastructure development and the education of the rural populace
about the benefits of e-commerce. -TŠA MASA REPORTER
- MTD BOARD STATEMENT.
According to the Ministry of Commerce in Xinhua (2018), China saw a boom in e-commerce
in rural areas last year as the rural population increasingly went online for business
and shopping. It is reported that online retail volume in rural areas topped 1.21
trillion yuan (194.1 billion U.S. Dolars) last year, up 38.1 percent year on year.
Over 9.8 million online shops were based in villages by the end of 2017, up 20.7
percent year on

The first of the three years artistic programme(2016-2019) funded by NAC now underway.
The name of the artistic programme, funded by the National Arts Council of South
Africa, is Tau tša hloka seboka di šitwa ke nare e hlotša.
A new board has been elected with additional six members taking up roles in new positions.
